The Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation is taking a major step forward in public safety by replacing its current automated external defibrillators with state-of-the-art Zoll AED 3 Defibrillator units.
This initiative not only upgrades the equipment currently in use but also expands AED availability across all DCR, including every Office of Public Safety & Law Enforcement vehicle and DCR’s state parks, Natural Heritage, Dam Safety and Floodplains, and Soil and Water Conservation divisions. AEDs will also be upgraded at all DCR offices, including headquarters in Richmond.
Sudden cardiac emergencies can happen anywhere, at any time. By deploying Zoll AEDs, DCR is strengthening its ability to respond quickly and effectively in critical moments. The more than 200 new units provide innovative features and real-time CPR feedback, making them easier for trained staff to use confidently when seconds matter most.
By investing in this upgrade, the department highlights its ongoing commitment to protecting the people who enjoy and steward Virginia’s natural and recreational resources. Whether someone is hiking a trail, working in the field, or collaborating with staff in Richmond, DCR is equipped to respond swiftly in a cardiac emergency.
The installation of the new Zoll AEDs is underway, with training and coordination taking place across divisions to ensure smooth implementation.
