Hourly Range: $15.00 - $16.00 per hour
Job Summary:
We are seeking a self-motivated and organized individual with strong interpersonal skills to successfully assist park management with administrative functions and work harmoniously with the public, volunteers, co-workers, and supervisors. This position will provide customer service to park visitors in-person and via phone; maintain a process of planning for, tracking, and meeting deadlines promptly; and utilize critical thinking skills to develop solutions.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- First point of contact for the park and provide administrative support for the office and full-time staff.
- Will coordinate special events with oversight from the Office Manager and Park Manager.
- Provide information for park visitors, including detailed information on campsites, park fees, directions, pricing, annual passes, trail information, park educational programs, and local area information.
- Responsible for reconciling daily revenue collections and required cash deposits.
- Assist Park Volunteer Manager in providing information about volunteer opportunities, volunteer record-keeping, and volunteer training.
- Assist the Office Manager and the Office Manager Assistant with the retail merchandising program, including receiving, processing, distributing, and inventorying merchandise for resale.
- Assist with training as needed and assign daily work tasks to seasonal staff.
- Provide coverage at park visitor center, camp store, and/or contact station during staff absences.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Excellent internal and external customer service and communication skills are required, including in-person, phone, and email.
- Proficient in using a computer, including operating and troubleshooting basic computer systems.
- Knowledge of computer applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Canva.
- Proficient in operating point of sale systems and cash management.
- Ability to work well with other staff, volunteers, and park guests both independently and as a team member.
- Ability to work weekends: work schedule will be Saturday-Monday and up to one or two additional weekdays as needed.
Additional Considerations:
- Prior experience in customer service, park setting, or related field is desirable, but not required.
- General knowledge of park operations and local attractions preferred.
Special Instructions:
- Background Check: Employment in all Virginia State Parks positions is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a criminal history background check.
- Employment Eligibility: Selected candidates must complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form. DCR participates in E-Verify.
- Driver’s License Requirement: A valid State Driver's License is required if operating a state or personal vehicle for agency business.
- Work Requirements: Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30.

- Fifty percent discount on cabins (up to 3 bedrooms) outside of Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, for a maximum of 14 nights. All reservations require a two-night minimum. Bunkhouses, camping cabins, and yurts are included; one-night yurt stays only receive a 25% discount.
