Sky Meadows State Park is accepting applications for the Trades Technician Supervisor position.
Job Summary:
This position will act as a frontline supervisor of other Trades Technicians in the maintenance department and complete projects in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, or other fields of expertise both individually as well as in group settings.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform and supervise facility and grounds maintenance, including mowing grass, weed eating, and trash and litter removal.
- Operate heavy equipment such as tractors, skid steers, and mini-excavators.
- Assist with facility inventory organization and provide accurate information for ordering parts and supplies.
- Assist with vehicle and equipment maintenance.
- Perform skilled facility repairs (drywall installation, electrical, roof installation/repair, plumbing), skilled equipment repairs (small engine specialty service, diagnostic services/parts ordering), and provide support for trail/volunteer projects, independent project designs, and execution.
- Assist with animal husbandry operations for (goats, chickens, bees, etc.).
- Perform and supervise janitorial duties, including cleaning public bathrooms, bathhouses, and park facilities.
- Regular work hours are flexible but will be no less than two and no more than four days within the Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. range
- Must be willing and able to attend mandatory, paid trainings when needed to comply with OSHA/State requirements.
- Must be willing to work weekends and evenings if needed.
- Must possess a valid State Driver's License.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience performing preventative maintenance for groundskeeping, facilities, vehicles, and equipment.
- Experience with trades skills such as construction, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, etc.
- Experience with acting as a supervisor or in a lead worker role, as well as working as part of a crew in a team environment.
Additional Considerations:
- Experience with gardening and general farming practices to include implementing a crop rotation/garden plan and fence construction.
- Knowledge of and familiarity with animal husbandry, various livestock, chicken flocks, goats, reptiles, and their levels of care.
- Knowledge of and ability to operate tractors, commercial mowing equipment, chainsaw equipment, power tools, hand tools, etc.
Special Instructions:
- Background Check: Employment in all Virginia State Parks positions is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a criminal history background check.
- Employment Eligibility: Selected candidates must complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form. DCR participates in E-Verify.
- Driver’s License Requirement: A valid State Driver's License is required if operating a state or personal vehicle for agency business.
- Work Requirements: Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30.
