New River Trail - Foster Falls is accepting applications for Maintenance Ranger positions.
Job Summary:
The Maintenance Ranger performs the recurring grounds care, maintenance, light construction, and cleaning tasks necessary to operate Virginia State Park facilities. Includes cleaning restrooms; mowing grass; weed eating; raking/removing leaf litter, trash, and litter; cleaning other park buildings; and maintenance of park trails.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Clean and maintain bathhouses, campsites, and facilities.
- Mow grass and perform general groundskeeping tasks.
- Remove leaves, trash, and litter from park areas.
- Perform basic maintenance on vehicles, tools, and equipment.
- Position requires standing, bending, and working in the outdoor elements.
- Assist with additional maintenance and operational tasks as assigned by supervisors.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid Driver's License required.
- Must be available to work various shifts, including weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings.
- General knowledge of the use and care of common hand tools and cleaning supplies,
- Ability to organize and perform routine cleaning, maintenance functions, and other duties as directed.
- Interpersonal skills to work well with other staff and park guests.
- Must be willing to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
Additional Considerations:
- Knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and masonry is preferred

- Employment Eligibility: Selected candidates must complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form. DCR participates in E-Verify.
- Driver’s License Requirement: A valid State Driver's License is required if operating a state or personal vehicle for agency business.
- Work Requirements: Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30.

- DCR classified, retired, and wage staff (after six months of service) are entitled to overnight facility discounts, such as:
- Free camping outside of the Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day period in sites designed for up to six people.
- Free camping Sunday night through Thursday night (excluding the night before a holiday) from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.
- Fifty percent discount on cabins (up to 3 bedrooms) outside of Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, for a maximum of 14 nights. All reservations require a two-night minimum. Bunkhouses, camping cabins, and yurts are included; one-night yurt stays only receive a 25% discount.
