York River State Park is accepting applications for the Office Assistant position.
Job Summary:
York River State Park is seeking qualified applicants to fill the Office Manager Assistant position. The selected individual should be self-motivated and organized to successfully assist park management with administrative functions. This position serves as the first point of contact for in-person and over-the-phone inquiries and provides office support services and coverage at the park office, gift shop and contact station.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Reconcile revenue for cash registers, prepare cash deposits, enter revenue data into respective software, maintain accurate and neat filing and storage, reconcile financial data, procure goods and services and manage park records.
- Return correspondence by phone and email regarding park information & customer requests, process and handle purchases, revenue and expenditure reporting, manage gift shop and conduct inventory counts, train and supervise seasonal staff.
- Perform general office administration duties as assigned; ensure workspace, front desk, and other customer contact areas are neat and clean; and serve as support staff for park leadership.
- This position requires working weekends and holidays.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Demonstrated previous experience in a customer service and/or public relations environment. excellent general communications skills (both oral and written) and ability to work in a team environment.
- Considerable knowledge and skills with a variety of computer-based business applications (such as Microsoft Office software) and a variety of office equipment.
- Experience using a cash register.
- Knowledge of and experience with business, computer, and office services, and related practices and procedures.
- Experience performing administrative office support using Microsoft Office software and the ability to operate a variety of office equipment.
- Excellent organizational skills and records management.
- Experience in providing customer service and maintaining positive public support.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently while handling multiple tasks.
- Ability to consistently meet deadlines and prioritize daily duties while demonstrating flexibility with addressing unexpected, urgent assignments.
- Must be able to communicate effectively in person, on the telephone, in writing, and via electronic methods.
- Ability to maintain a positive attitude and work well with park staff, support organizations, and the public.
Additional Considerations:
- Experience providing administrative support and knowledge of the park is desirable.
- Prior knowledge and experience in retail management and cash management procedures.

Background Check: Employment in all Virginia State Parks positions is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a criminal history background check.
Employment Eligibility: Selected candidates must complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form. DCR participates in E-Verify.
Driver’s License Requirement: A valid State Driver's License is required if operating a state or personal vehicle for agency business.
Work Requirements: Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30.
