Grayson Highlands State Park is accepting applications for a Contact Ranger position.

Job Summary:

Contact Rangers provide the first point of contact for visitors at the park. Primary duties include collecting entrance fees, registering campers, providing information on and orientation to the park and its facilities, as well as providing information and orientation to other local activities and attractions. Visitor contacts are to be conducted in an outgoing, friendly, and professional manner, including a professional appearance.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide high-quality customer service.
Perform clerical duties such as computer, cash register, copier, handheld radio, and phone system operations.
Provide information regarding state park amenities and services.
Responsible for collecting and reconciling daily revenue on the cash register.
Possess familiarity with park rules, trails, and facilities.
Perform daily cleaning of the contact station.
Must be able to work various shifts, including weekends, holidays, and evening shifts.
May be required to perform related duties during emergencies or on a non-recurrent basis.

Minimum Qualifications:

Must be able to provide high-quality customer service and communicate verbally with guests.
Must be able to work well independently and in a team environment.
Must be able to count money.
Ability to operate a computer/cash register.
General knowledge of office and computer operations.

Additional Considerations:

General knowledge of park operations and local attractions preferred.
Prior experience in customer service, park setting, or related field is desirable, but not required.

Special Instructions:

Background Check: Employment in all Virginia State Parks positions is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a criminal history background check.
Employment Eligibility: Selected candidates must complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form. DCR participates in E-Verify.
Driver’s License Requirement: A valid State Driver's License is required if operating a state or personal vehicle for agency business.
Work Requirements: Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30.
