Step back in time as you explore the brand‑new interpretive trail at Green Pastures Recreation Area. This self‑guided walk invites visitors to learn the extraordinary history of this cherished outdoor space—one of the few recreation areas available to African Americans in Southwest Virginia during the era of segregation.
Along the trail, you’ll encounter seven beautifully designed interpretive signs that bring the park’s history to life. Each sign shares not only historical information, but also personal stories and memories from community members who grew up visiting Green Pastures. Their voices help paint a vivid picture of what this place meant—and continues to mean—to the families who found joy, recreation, and community here.
Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a nature lover, or simply looking for a peaceful place to explore, the Green Pastures interpretive trail provides an enriching experience for all ages.
Come take a walk, learn something new, and connect with the powerful legacy of Green Pastures.
The trail is less than a half‑mile long and follows a natural, uneven surface with minimal elevation gain.
