See some of the park's lesser noticed insects: Moths! During Naturalist Week you can join expert naturalists each day for a new theme packed with discovery and adventure; perfect for all ages. Come learn, explore, and connect with nature in new and exciting ways. Hands-on activities, expert talks, and outdoor adventures await!

Monday: Caving & Cave Ecosystems with Scientist, Penelope Vorster
Tuesday: Freshwater Mussels & Snorkeling with Aquatic Biologist, Tiffany Leach
Wednesday:  Geology & Rock Formations with Program Director and State Geologist, Matthew Heller
Thursday: Moth Night with Rangers
Friday: River Detectives with Naturalist, Brooks Lindamood

Thursday, July 30: Moth Night with New River Trail State Park Rangers
(8-10 pm)

Join us for an immersive, hands-on exploration of the park’s moth biodiversity! Using specialized light traps and collection techniques, we’ll observe night-time moths that often go unnoticed.

This program blends discovery and identification, offering visitors a chance to learn about these animals play such an essential role in our ecosystem. Participants will help document moth species and gain a deeper appreciation for the park’s natural heritage.

Whether you’re a seasoned naturalist or simply curious about what flutters in the dark, this guided survey invites you to experience Foster Falls in a whole new way.

All ages are welcome, and no prior experience is needed.
Prepare to walk on uneven terrain for 1/2 a mile. 

Meeting location: Discovery Center in the Historic Foster Falls Village.
