Becoming a Birder: Intro to Birding

Location of Mason Neck State Park in Virginia

Where

Program Location: Visitor Center
Main Park Address: Mason Neck State Park, 7301 High Point Rd., Lorton, VA 22079.

When

June 28, 2026. 10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

Bird watching can be challenging, even for the most experienced birders. Once you learn the basics, it becomes a fun and rewarding hobby. Build your birder brain and join a ranger to learn how binoculars, visual guides, behaviors, and calls can aid in bird identification. After our discussion, we will head out and put our new skills to the test, so the next time someone asks, “What is that bird?” you’ll be ready to impress them with the answer.

We suggest downloading the Merlin app to your phone and creating a free account before the class.
