Jr. Ranger Program: Let's Explore Nature!

Explore animal tracks and signs, discover the world of rocks and minerals, get ‘buggy’ with insects, and get up close and personal with some of our reptile friends.

The Jr. Ranger Program is open only to children who are ages 7-12 years old as of June 22, 2026. Camp runs Monday, June 22 through Thursday, June 25, from 1:30-4:00 p.m. each day. Children who complete the full camp (10 hours of programming) will graduate as a Jr. Ranger and receive a certificate and Jr. Ranger badge. Graduation is Thursday, June 25, 2026, from 4:00-4:30 p.m.

Pre-registration is required. Registration opens May 20, 2026, and closes on June 17, 2026. Request a registration form by emailing to jeanette.lawler@dcr.virginia.gov, or you may call 540-297-5998 for more information. Space is limited to 12 participants. Registrations need to be returned no later than June 20, 2026. You will be notified with more details when the registration is confirmed.

This Jr. Ranger Program is being offered, free of charge to participants, thanks to the generous support of the Friends of Smith Mountain Lake State Park.
