When

Aug. 28, 2026. 7:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

For decades, stories of mysterious Bigfoot sightings have echoed throughout the Shenandoah Valley. Gather around the campfire with us as we explore the mysterious local history of this elusive cryptid.

We'll discuss whether Bigfoot, also known as Sasquatch, could realistically exist in the region, given the local environment, while also examining real animals that were once dismissed as myths before being proven real. After the discussion, we'll embark on a short hike (about one mile) to search for signs of the legendary Sasquatch ourselves.

Whether you're a skeptic or a believer, it will be a fun night to learn about Bigfoot folklore and enjoy a night hike. The hike will be about one mile on easy terrain after dark, so participants are recommended to bring sturdy shoes and a flashlight.

Parks are for everyone. Please let us know if you need special accommodations. For more information about this program, please email crystal.jewett@dcr.virginia.gov or call (540) 622-2262.
