Celebrate Girl Scouts Love State Parks Weekend with a creative, nature-inspired adventure by the lake. Douthat Lake is home to some big, beautiful trout, and this program invites you to explore the fascinating world of our native fish while connecting art and the outdoors. A ranger will guide you through the unique features that help identify different fish species in our lake and streams—like how to tell a sunfish from a trout or a bass from a carp.

Then, step into the role of an outdoor artist as we create nature prints using rubber fish models and paint. This hands-on activity is a fun way to observe details in nature and can help you work toward your Brownie Outdoor Art Badge. Blending art and science, this program helps deepen your appreciation for the natural world while sparking creativity.

Every September, during Girl Scouts Love State Parks weekend, Virginia State Parks offers a variety of programs to connect Girl Scouts with nature while earning badges. From guided hikes and plant identification to campfire building and backpacking basics, this special weekend helps Girl Scouts learn outdoor skills, build confidence and become advocates for the environment.
