Experience the fun of paddling during Girl Scouts Love State Parks Weekend with a canoeing program that helps you work toward your Senior Paddling Badge. Our rangers will guide you through essential paddling techniques, safety basics, and how to choose and care for your equipment.
After learning the fundamentals, we’ll head out onto the calm waters of Douthat Lake for a guided paddle. As you explore the shoreline and enjoy the scenery, you’ll have the chance to practice your strokes, build confidence on the water, and connect with the natural beauty of the park.
Space is limited, so please sign up in advance at the Park Office; the cost is $6 per participant. Children must be at least 4 years old, and one participant per canoe must be at least 16 years old.

Every September, during Girl Scouts Love State Parks weekend, Virginia State Parks offers a variety of programs to connect Girl Scouts with nature while earning badges. From guided hikes and plant identification to campfire building and backpacking basics, this special weekend helps Girl Scouts learn outdoor skills, build confidence and become advocates for the environment.
