Sept. 12, 2026. 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Come out to the New River, get your feet wet, and explore life underwater!

Using the river as a laboratory, a ranger will lead the search under rocks for aquatic life (macroinvertebrates) and discover how these critters can help us determine the health of the stream.

Wear closed-toe shoes that can get wet and bring a change of clothes.

Two sessions will be offered, but spaces are limited. Please call the office in advance to register: 276-699-6778
Session 1: 1-2 pm
Session 2: 2-3 pm

This program depends on river levels and is weather permitting.

Every September, during Girl Scouts Love State Parks weekend, Virginia State Parks offers a variety of programs to connect Girl Scouts with nature while earning badges.
