Hike along the riverbanks of the James River through the park's riparian forest to discover the fascinating history and wonders of the pawpaw tree. The ranger will help you look for ripe fruits that have fallen and are ready to eat! You'll get the knowledge you need to fully appreciate these delicious fruits while respecting the forest habitat and leaving plenty for others.

What to Expect:
The walk will be less than two miles on a mostly flat, shaded trail. Please bring water and wear comfortable hiking shoes. While registration is not required for this program, it is recommended! If you register, we will be able to contact you if the program is cancelled due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

NOTE: Foraging at Powhatan State Park must adhere to Virginia State Parks regulations. To forage, you must be with a park ranger or call ahead and receive verbal permission: (804)212-5675.
