Nature Journaling at the Library

Where
Program Location: Powhatan County Library
Main Park Address: Powhatan State Park, 4616 Powhatan State Park Rd., Powhatan, VA 23139.
When
Aug. 22, 2026. 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Teens and adults are invited to join a creative workshop at the Powhatan Library. In this class, you'll slow down, step outside, and discover how nature journaling can change the way you notice the world around you. This flexible practice of writing and drawing can improve focus, observation skills, memory, deepen curiosity, and help you connect to the natural world. Participants will be guided through easy, curiosity-driven activities that encourage looking closely, wondering freely, and recording observations in a journal. Master Naturalist and educator Mary Larson leads the monthly workshop, which features a new seasonal subject each month.
What To Bring:
We will provide unlined paperback sketchbooks, #2 pencils, and colored pencils. You are welcome to bring any of your own additional supplies! You may also want to bring a collapsible chair to sit on while recording your observations outside.
What to Expect:
During the summer, this workshop is conducted inside the library's large meeting room and includes optional brief walking around the beautiful surrounding forested trails.
Registration:
While registration is not required for this program, it is recommended. If you register, we will be able to contact you if the program is cancelled due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
