Join us at Douthat State Park for Homeschool Naturalists, a monthly outdoor education series designed for homeschool students of all ages. Each session explores a different nature-based topic through hands-on activities, guided discovery, and time in the great outdoors.
This session of Homeschool Naturalist is Fur, Tracks, and Scat. We’ll learn how to identify animals by the clues they leave behind — from fur and footprints to scat. Kids will explore how different animals move through their habitats and what their tracks can tell us. We’ll also get hands-on by making our own clay scat models to practice identifying shapes and patterns. Then, we’ll head out on a short hike to see if we can spot any real tracks along the trail.
