The Good, the Birds, and the Feathery

Soar into the wide, wonderful world of birds as you progress toward your Girl Scouts Love State Parks badge!

2:00 pm - 3:00 pm Migration Station Visit our display and touch table at Picnic Shelter #2 in the day use area to see and touch bird specimens and learn all about avian habits, habitats, and migratory methods.

5:00 pm - 6:00 pm Drawn to Birds Have you ever wished you could draw or paint the birds you see, only to realize you weren't sure where to begin? Join us at Picnic Shelter #2 to learn the basics of bird anatomy for artists and start your very own nature journal to bring on your outdoor adventures in the future!

7:00 pm - 8:00 pm: Owl Prowl Meet at Picnic Shelter #1 and get ready to embark on a nighttime adventure into the hidden world of owls. Learn about the different species found at Kiptopeke and how their adaptations help them thrive as nocturnal predators, then join us as we head into the woods to see if we can call some real owls to us!

Every September, during Girl Scouts Love State Parks weekend, Virginia State Parks offers a variety of programs to connect Girl Scouts with nature while earning badges. From guided hikes and plant identification to campfire building and backpacking basics, this special weekend helps Girl Scouts learn outdoor skills, build confidence and become advocates for the environment.
