Join us for a herp walk at the park…wait, what? Herp is a shortened version of herpetology, the study of reptiles and amphibians, Marshall Boyd, from the Virginia Museum of Natural History and a member of the Virginia Herpetological Society’s Education Committee will lead this adventure as we search for and learn about some of the park’s less frequently seen residents (turtles, toads, frogs, snakes, salamanders, lizards). It will be a fairly slow-paced adventure, with lots of opportunities for exploring habitats near the trail and river.

For your comfort and safety, we recommend water, insect repellent, sunscreen, and sturdy close-toed shoes. This will be an easy hike which will be less than a mile and a half. .

Marshall will also be staffing a table from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm that day at Beats on the Bend event in the corral area by the barn. So, if you can’t make the hike, or just want to learn more about our crawling, hopping, slithering little friends, stop by and see him there.

This is just one of the hikes that will be offered prior to the Beats on the Bend event. You can find out more about Beats on the Bend here. The music will just be starting as this hike is ending.
