Ever wondered what happened at Kiptopeke before it became a state park? How about where it got its name? Why is the Eastern Shore of Virginia so geologically unique, and what makes it a world-famous hot spot for birdwatching? What are those mysterious concrete ships doing in the water? Learn these answers and many more on a ranger-led hike highlighting the park's distinctive human and natural history.
The hike is about one mile in length and easy. There is a moderate length flight of stairs on the route. The hike can be adjusted to bypass the stairs if needed or desired; just notify the ranger leading the hike before it starts if you are uncomfortable ascending them. Please wear closed toe shoes. Children (who must be accompanied by an adult) and leashed dogs are welcome to join the fun!
