Come celebrate National Public Lands Day on September 26, and be part of a nationwide movement to preserve and protect our public lands. Join us in ensuring that our public lands continue to be a source of beauty, inspiration and recreation.

Have you ever tried archery or mountain biking or fly fishing? This weekend is for all those women who would love to gain confidence in striking out on their own in activities they may have tried before or not, but who would love to learn new skills to start lifelong hobbies.

Sept. 5 & 6, 2026. 1 - 2 p.m.
Sailor's Creek Battlefield State Park
Join us at Sailor’s Creek Battlefield State Park for a unique look at one of the American Civil War's most unexpected stories. Hugo Mulertt immigrated from Saxony as a teenager and enlisted in the Union cavalry during the final months of the Civil War.

High Bridge Trail State Park
Experience the beauty of High Bridge Trail under the enchanting light of the setting sun and the rising moon. This is a unique opportunity to explore High Bridge Trail during the evening and encounter the sights and sounds of nighttime along the Appomattox River.

Various parks
Virginia State Parks is participating in the biggest national Girl Scout event of the year during Girl Scouts Love State Parks in collaboration with the National Association of State Park Directors. From guided hikes and plant identification to campfire building and backpacking basics, this special weekend helps Girl Scouts learn outdoor skills, build confidence and become advocates for the environment.

Sept. 12, 2026. 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Wilderness Road State Park
Across Virginia, women made the journey into the wilderness with hearts full of hope. They established new homes and created opportunities for generations to come. Travel the hunter’s trace to Martin’s Station and join the women of Powell’s Valley as they harness the unbreakable spirit and pay homage to the women who birthed a new and free nation.

Join Rangers for a morning of family fun, fishing and learning about the Potomac River. Kids Fishing Clinics throughout the summer are suitable for all ability levels, ages 3-15 years old.
This program will train guests to focus on the present moment, observe their thoughts and feelings without judgment, and enhance their awareness of the mind-body connection.

Join us for a day of competitive fly fishing on one of Virginia's most scenic waterways! This tournament combines the thrill of angling with the beauty of Shenandoah River State Park, all while supporting vital conservation efforts.

Pocahontas State Park
The Beach Bumz are a Baltimore Maryland, Orlando Florida based Beach Tribute Band. Performing all your favorite beach music from Jimmy Buffett, the Beach Boys and many more of your favorite summer music classics.

Powhatan State Park
We are hosting Central Virginia's favorite fruit focused event, the 4th Annual Pawpaw Festival. The festival will feature an array of local vendors with bites, brews, crafts, and critters. Throughout the day you can explore acoustic music performances, ranger-led programs, and animal encounters.

Sept. 19, 2026. 6 - 8 p.m.
Westmoreland State Park
Mark your calendars, music on the cliffs is back and we want you to join us for this amazing summer concert series overlooking the Potomac River! Music on the cliff is our parks outdoor concert series where you can unwind and experience great local music in a beautiful natural setting.
Explore an enchanting evening amidst the rolling Blue Ridge Mountains as the sun sets and the world transitions from day to night! Embark on an easy-to-moderate guided hike that winds through lush forests, open fields, and picturesque meadows. Experience the magic of twilight as the landscape transforms under the fading light and wildlife becomes more active during this mystical time of day.

Seven Bends State Park
Join us for Beats on the Bend - a vibrant concert and family fun day at Seven Bends State Park! We’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help bring an exciting outdoor concert to life! This is a great chance to support a fun community event, meet new people, and enjoy live music while making a difference.
