WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Department of Conservation and Recreation will hold a public information meeting on May 19 to discuss the master plan for York River State Park. The meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. at the park’s visitor center.

The purpose of the meeting is to introduce the public to the master planning process, summarize existing resources, notify the public about upcoming public outreach and engagement opportunities and obtain input regarding new and improved recreational facilities at the park.

The park is renowned for its rare, fragile estuarine ecosystem, where freshwater and saltwater blend to support an abundant variety of plant and marine life. Located along the York River, it is part of the Chesapeake Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve. Its unspoiled landscapes reveal traces of both natural and cultural history, including fossil beds and Colonial‑era and Native American artifacts. Programs, activities and visitor center exhibits highlight the river’s history, its uses, its wildlife, as well as ongoing conservation efforts. More than 40 miles of hiking, mountain biking, and equestrian trails invite visitors to explore the marshes, riverbanks, and forests. Amenities include a boat ramp, freshwater and saltwater fishing areas, a fishing pier, playgrounds, picnic shelters and seasonal boat rentals.
