Sweet Run State Park seeks community input Sept. 22
Join the public comment meeting and provide feedback on proposed park plans

LOUDOUN, Va. – The Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation will be holding a Public Comment Meeting to present the draft master plan. The meeting will take place in person on Sept. 22, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. at Between the Hills Community Center. Click here for more details.

In accordance with Virginia State Code, a master plan is required for Sweet Run State Park, which was recently designated as a new state park. This is a unique opportunity for the public to help shape the park’s first master plan and its future.

The purpose of is the meeting is to discuss recommendations for proposed improvements at the park and obtain feedback from the public regarding the draft master plan. 

Nestled between the Blue Ridge and Short Hills mountains in northwest Loudoun County, Sweet Run State Park features diverse natural and cultural resources, including fields, forests, successional habitats, mountain vistas, two converging streams and two ponds. Remnants of early settlement and agriculture remain throughout the landscape. Formerly managed by the Blue Ridge Center for Environmental Stewardship (now the Between the Hills Conservancy), the land was donated to Virginia State Parks by the Robert and Dee Leggett Foundation.

“Community participation is vital in planning for the park’s future,” said DCR Environmental Program Planner Joshua Bateman. “As we develop the park’s master plan, we encourage you to review the proposals and share your thoughts so that the future vision for the park reflects the will of the community, because your voice matters.”

There will be an opportunity for the public to comment at the meeting and during a 30-day comment period afterward.
