Virginia State Parks Ranger Conservation Corps is an engaging initiative aimed at nurturing the future leaders in outdoor recreation, conservation and park management. We believe in empowering the next generations and providing them with the tools they need to make a positive impact on our natural world.

RCC supports our mission of stewardship and conservation through specific hands-on training and professional development for those seeking tools to achieve their conservation goals.

Interns will immerse themselves in a dynamic learning environment, acquiring practical experience across various facets of park operations, education and interpretation. They will play a pivotal role in championing the mission, culture, and core values of the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation and Virginia State Parks, all while contributing to the preservation of natural beauty and promoting outdoor recreation.

Program tracks

The Ranger Conservation Corps offers comprehensive training and hands-on experience across various aspects of park operations, equipping participants with valuable skills for future employment. Our interns immerse themselves in the culture, mission and values of Virginia State Parks and the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR). Through this program, interns will acquire knowledge and make meaningful contributions to the success of Virginia State Parks. Additionally, the program fosters connections and opens pathways to careers in conservation, education, recreation, and public service. We are excited to announce the launch of two new tracks:

The Park Operations program involves a diverse range of responsibilities for its participants. Typically, individuals in this program engage in a range of experiences that encompass maintenance tasks, customer service interactions, enterprise activities and educational interpretation. Participants also contribute to housekeeping efforts, administrative functions and resource management activities. This wide array of duties provides valuable experiences and skills essential for effective ranger operations. (480 hours)

The Education and Interpretation program encompasses a diverse array of educational activities aimed at conveying the significance of the park's natural, historical and cultural resources. These activities may include, but are not limited to, guided history tours, children's programs, kayaking or canoe excursions, guided hikes, campfire gatherings and evening presentations. Participants will engage in park programs and volunteer initiatives, provide customer service and receive training in some maintenance or operations as part of their experience. (480 hours)

Q: Who can apply?
A: RCC is open to individuals 18 years or older with a valid driver's license who are interested in careers in conservation, outdoor recreation, environmental education or park management. College students, recent graduates and early-career professionals are strongly encouraged to apply.
