Come spend a day with Natural Heritage and Nature Conservancy staff to explore and improve rare plant habitat at the Big Barren! This event will entail a two-mile round-trip hike to the Big Barren with some parts being steep and moderately strenuous. Volunteers will get to spend the afternoon using small hand saws and loppers to clear small woody vegetation from the barren to promote an open habitat for rare plants! “Why does this barren need our help?” you might ask. Because natural wildfires are artificially suppressed by humans across the landscape, this special little ecosystem needs our support to maintain a more natural environment.
