Join Natural Heritage experts for a night of wonder and curiosity at Southside Savanna. You'll enjoy some of Virginia's darkest skies near the peak of the Perseids meteor shower, the biggest of the year. You'll get to see a night sky program led by a former night sky interpreter from the National Park Service. The event takes place two nights after the peak of the Perseids, at which point there are up to 100 meteors visible per hour. Afterward, Senior Zoologist Steve Roble will be showing some of the local moths during a live viewing.
If you want to stay in the area, consider camping at the adjacent Staunton River State Park, an International Dark Sky Park home to Virginia's largest lake and extensive hiking trails. For more details, visit: www.dcr.virginia.gov/state-parks/staunton-river#cabins_camping
