Department of Conservation and Recreation
In accordance with the Code of Virginia, the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation is preparing an updated master plan for Powhatan State Park. The purpose of a master plan is to guide the management and development of a park by identifying natural, cultural and physical resources, identifying park needs with respect to future facilities, and engaging with the public.
The Department of Conservation and Recreation held a public information meeting September 23, 2025, at the Powhatan County Village Building Auditorium. This meeting introduced the master planning process, summarized existing resources and information about the park, and informed the public about public outreach and engagement opportunities so that the public can provide input about the need for new and improved recreational facilities and amenities at the park.

The Department of Conservation and Recreation held the public comment meeting on March 31, 2026, at the Powhatan County Village Building Auditorium, to obtain feedback on the recommendations of the master plan. Comments from the public were incorporated into the master plan; the final draft will be posted on this page once available.
