Leesylvania is along the tidal portion of the Potomac River in northern Virginia. Migrant species take advantage of the river shoreline, surrounding woods and field habitat.

Popular birding locations in the park include the picnic area, which is adjacent to the Potomac River as well as along Lee's Woods, Bushey Point, and Powells Creek trails. Ospreys nest in warm weather months in established sites near the fishing pier and boat launch area. Leesylvania is one site frequently used as part of the Christmas Bird Count.Special birding programs and events
